Agri Aware and equuip are proud to present Transition Year students with a comprehensive overview of the horse racing industry with a strong focus on increasing awareness of the careers that feature throughout the foal to race story. Some of the featured career case studies include jockeys, digital marketing and nominations.

Throughout this 12-week (1 hour per week) programme, both teachers and students will gain insight into the horse racing industry “From Foal to Race”, including the role of stud farms, animal welfare and other regulations of the industry.

This programme is not just relevant for those living within horseracing communities but also opens conversations for those who do not. There are no prior industry or equine knowledge expectations.

The programme features topics relevant to the Leaving Certificate cycle in the areas of biology, business, agricultural science and design and communication. This interdisciplinary approach reflects real-world application of school taught subjects in a flexible and interesting format.

This year, at the close of the programme, pupils will be be tasked with submitting a reflection exercise of their choice inspired by the programme. The winning class will win €1000 for their school to be used for the benefit of student learning e.g. digital devices. The winning group will also win a VIP trip to one of Ireland’s most exciting racecourses for their TY class. Each pupil that submits a project will receive a certificate of completion.
