From Foal to Race Programme

Agri Aware and equuip have teamed up to create this equine programme which offers a learning experience for both students and teachers, with no prior industry knowledge required.

Introduction

Agri Aware and equuip are delighted to present Transition Year students with a comprehensive overview of the horse racing industry. With a strong focus on increasing awareness of the careers associated with the foal to race story, featured career case studies include jockeys, digital marketing and stud nominators.

Throughout this 12-week programme, teachers and students will spend 1 hour per week gaining insight into the racing industry ‘From Foal to Race‘, with topics including the role of stud farms, animal welfare and other regulations of the industry.

Relevant to students in horseracing communities and beyond, no prior industry or equine knowledge is required to participate. The programme aligns with Leaving Certificate subjects like biology, business, agricultural science, and design. This interdisciplinary approach showcasing real-world applications of classroom subjects in a flexible format and engaging format.

From Foal to Race - 2025 Programme

This year, participating pupils have been tasked with submitting a reflection exercise of their choice inspired by the programme. The winning class will win €1000 for their school to be used for the benefit of student learning e.g. digital devices. The winning group will also win a VIP trip to one of Ireland’s most exciting racecourses for their TY class. Each pupil that submits a project will receive a certificate of completion.

All participating teachers have received an email regarding project submission. 

  • Closing Date for Submissions: Friday, April 25, 2025
  • Students are invited to submit their reflection through their preferred medium: an essay, poem, short story, written or verbal speech, video presentation, PowerPoint presentation, piece of artwork or a filmed drama. 
  • Preferred Format: PDF (use convert to PDF function in PowerPoint or Microsoft Word). Images are also accepted through the file upload. If submitting a video, please only submit YouTube links through the portal.
