Every year, Agri Aware welcomes patrons and special guests to the Agri Aware Farmyard Stage for insightful and engaging discussions on key topics within the agricultural sector, including dairy, beef, sheep, poultry, pigs, water quality, sustainability, and more.
These sessions give the public a valuable opportunity to connect with industry experts and have their most pressing questions answered.
A huge thank you to all our panellists who contributed to the excellent discussions held throughout Bloom 2026.
Event Elements
Bord Bia Bloom in the Phoenix Park provides a unique opportunity each year to showcase the very best of Irish agriculture to the public.
Building on the success of previous years, we continue to enhance the farmyard experience with new features and attractions that highlight the diversity of Ireland’s livestock sector, including sheep, beef cattle, and dairy cows.
Alongside these livestock displays, visitors can learn about the measures farmers are taking to improve environmental performance and support the long-term sustainability of Irish agriculture.
Over the five-day event, visitors to the farmyard can engage with Agri Aware staff, enjoy interactive exhibits, and experience a range of activations that demonstrate the innovation, quality, and commitment that underpin Irish farming today.
Sheep Shearing
Sheep shearing demonstrations take place multiple times each day, providing visitors with an engaging and educational experience. Professional shearers guide the audience through the shearing process, explaining the importance of shearing for animal welfare.
Visitors have the opportunity to ask questions throughout the demonstrations, gaining a greater understanding of sheep husbandry. They can also see and feel the wool firsthand, creating an interactive experience that connects them with an important aspect of Irish farming
Milking Demonstrations
Milking demonstrations take place twice daily, offering visitors an insight into the modern dairy farming process. Agri Aware staff guide audiences through each stage of milking, explaining how milk is hygienically collected, the average volume of milk produced by a dairy cow, and the measures taken to ensure animal health and welfare throughout the process.
The demonstrations also highlight post-milking care and the high standards maintained on Irish dairy farms. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions, providing an opportunity to learn more about dairy production and the journey of milk from farm to table.
Grassland Species & Hedgerow Display
Thanks to the support of DLF, we are able to showcase the different types of forage that grass-based livestock systems in Ireland rely on. The display includes grass-only swards, grass-clover mixtures, and multi-species swards, highlighting the diversity of modern pasture systems and their role in sustainable food production.
These demonstrations also provide an opportunity to showcase the measures farmers are taking to reduce reliance on chemical nitrogen fertilisers. Visitors can learn about the environmental and economic benefits of incorporating clover and multi-species swards into grassland management systems.
In addition, the exhibit highlights nature-based measures being implemented on farms to support biodiversity and enhance the rural landscape. We are grateful to Tirlán, Athboy, for providing hedgerows for the Bloom 2026 display, helping to demonstrate the important role hedgerows play in supporting wildlife, storing carbon, and improving farm sustainability. Thanks to O’Shea Farms for supplying the potato boxes used throughout the display.
Agricultural Machinery
Showcasing modern farm machinery is an important part of the exhibit, demonstrating how farmers are adopting increasingly precise technologies to improve soil health, soil structure, and overall farm sustainability.
The display includes a fertiliser spreader, kindly provided by Farmhand, which helps illustrate how precision application technologies enable farmers to apply nutrients more accurately and efficiently. This not only improves crop performance but also reduces waste and minimises environmental impacts.
Visitors can also view a trailing shoe slurry applicator, generously supplied by Mastek for the event. This technology demonstrates how slurry can be applied more effectively by placing nutrients directly onto the soil surface, reducing nutrient losses and improving nutrient uptake by grass crops. The display highlights the practical steps Irish farmers are taking to improve nutrient management while protecting water quality and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
