Agri Aware’s Incredible Edibles programme is back for 2025, bringing an exciting new format to primary schools across the country.
Now in its eighteenth year, the Incredible Edibles programme aims to educate primary school students about the benefits of eating Irish-grown fruits and vegetables and the importance of food origin in a more enjoyable way through active participation in growing their own fruits and vegetables in school.
To kick off another year of Incredible Edibles, Monaghan GAA player and dairy farmer Darren Hughes joined last year’s whole school winners, Scoil Mhuire Latton, from Moylagh, Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan.
Chef Tara Walker cooked up a storm at the launch, tying in one of the new chapters to the programme, Balanced Bites, by preparing taco fries packed with fresh vegetables, Bord Bia quality-assured mince, and Country Crest potatoes.
Last year, the programme saw 62,100 students participate, and there are hopes to increase this number with the refreshed format. The 2025 programme will feature four key tasks, including Tracing Our Food’s Journey, Sowing & Growing, Roots to Recipes, and Balanced Bites.
At the end of the term, students will submit one project per class that reflects on their learning. This can take the form of a poem, story, artwork, video, or presentation.
Commenting on the launch of the Incredible Edibles for the 2024-25 school term, Agri Aware Chairman Shay Galvin said, “We at Agri Aware are delighted to bring one of our longest-standing programmes back to primary schools. We are confident that the new format will make it easier for both students and teachers to participate in the programme.
“It is essential that children are introduced to the benefits of eating healthy to raise awareness of the importance of buying Irish-grown produce and the health benefits they gain from eating it.
“Thanks once again to the sponsors of this programme who make it possible to deliver the programme to primary school students across the country.”
