Agri Aware returned to Bord Bia Bloom in the Phoenix Park on the June Bank Holiday weekend.
Over 700 schoolchildren from across the country enjoyed a day away from the classroom as they toured the Agri Aware Farmyard and the Eat Well Kitchen and Gardens at Bord Bia Bloom in the Park. The sun shone as everyone enjoyed their time at the famed celebration of horticulture and food.
The pupils went on the tour as part of the Agri Aware Incredible Edibles fruit and vegetable growing programme.
As part of the tour, the children and their teachers got to meet and chat with some farmers who told them all about where food comes from. There were also spinning and weaving demonstrations as the children enjoyed some hands-on learning about agriculture and even had some time for farming-themed games.
Each class, as part of the Incredible Edibles programme was given a grow box full of healthy Irish fresh fruit and vegetables to plant in their school.
They learn all about where food comes from, how to identify Irish food, preparing and cooking that food, as well as partaking in a healthy eating week. A visit to Bord Bia Bloom helps reinforce this learning in a practical and visible way as the children got to see and taste so much Irish food on their tour.
As well as the school tours it was great to catch up with friends and patrons in the Dublin sun.
