Ag Science Co-Ordinator Initiative
Agri Aware and Laois and Offaly Education and Training Board (LOETB) are delighted to announce the launch of the Ag Science Co-Ordinator initiative for 2026/2027.
Piloted last year in Laois and Offaly, Agri Aware’s Agricultural Science Co-Ordinator visited 5th and 6th year Agricultural Science classrooms over the course of the academic year.
This year, the initiative will be available in the following counties, Carlow, Cavan, Dublin, east Galway, Kilkenny, Laois, Letrim, Louth, Monaghan, Meath, Offaly, Kildare, east Roscommon, North Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath and Wexford in 2026/2027.
The goal of the initiative is to enhance students’ understanding of key areas frequently occurring in the Leaving Certificate Paper, supplement classroom learning with topic focused workshops and spark interest in agricultural careers.
The initative in 2025/2026 was a great success via in-person class visits, out of school study workshops and farm visits. This year, Agri Aware has expanded its educational team to allow for further growth of the initiative across the country.

About the Initiative
This initiative sees an Agri Aware Agricultural Science Officer visit secondary schools across Ireland to deliver engaging and informative talks to Leaving Certificate Agricultural Science students.
The programme will provide teachers with a selection of
thematic modules, ensuring alignment with the agricultural
science curriculum.
Teachers have an opportunity to choose one of the cross-cutting themes of the Agricultural Science curriculum for the Agricultural Science Co-Ordinator to build a class visit workshop around to support teacher learning and student understanding of a particular topic.

7. Nutrition
8. Food production
In summary, the goal is to provide an additonal support pillar to teachers and students as they navigate their way through the Agricultural Science curriculum.
The objectives of the initiative include:
- Enhance students’ understanding of key topic areas frequently occurring in the Leaving Certificate Agricultural Science exam paper.
- Offer teacher support on cross-curricular themes via in-person school visits.
- Provide online educational resources to enhance student learning.
- Increase consideration of progressing to the Agricultural Science Subject as part of the Leaving Certificate.
The initiative will incorporate:
- Key skills from the Agricultural Science curriculum.
- Group work.
- Practical work.
- Inclusive lessons.
- Lesson plans to suit 40 minute and one hour long classes.
