The World Sheep Shearing Championships took place in Invercargill, New Zealand last week. During the four-day event, six of Ireland’s top shearers and wool handlers represented Ireland in the championships against shearers from 32 countries across the globe.

Over the course of the event, various competitions took place from the All Nations Intermediate Shearing Heats, to the All Nations Open Shearing and the All Nations Open Wool Handling. The Irish team gave an impressive performance in each of the events which led them to a very strong finish.

Ivan Scott and Stanley Allingham came sixth in the World Team Open Machine Final and Peter Heraty and Noel Joyce came fourth in the World Team Blade Shearing Final. Team captain and champion Ivan Scott also came fourth in the individual World Machine Shearing Final.

Agri Aware would like to congratulate Team Ireland on their great achievements. Thanks to everyone who participated in Agri Aware’s BAA-rilliant competition and sent in pictures of support for Team Ireland.

Comhghairdeas! Congratulations!
