Agri Aware welcomes Horse Racing Ireland as a new patron
Agri Aware, the Irish independent agri-food educational body, is delighted to announce Horse Racing Ireland as its newest patron.
Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) is the national authority for thoroughbred racing in Ireland, with responsibility for the governance, development and promotion of the equine industry. The thoroughbred industry in Ireland has an estimated annual value of €1.1 billion to the Irish economy.
The addition of Horse Racing Ireland to Agri Aware’s seventy plus patron base reflects the importance of the equine industry to the Irish economy and the key link with farmers, owners and breeders right across the country.
Commenting on the expansion of Agri Aware’s patron base, Chairman, Richard Moeran, said, “Agri Aware recognises the importance of thoroughbred horse racing to the Irish economy. We are delighted to have Horse Racing Ireland as our newest patron. I look forward to working on educational initiatives with HRI and highlighting the contribution of the equine sector.”
Agri Aware’s Chief Executive, Dr. Vanessa Woods, welcomed Horse Racing Ireland as a new patron of Agri Aware, and said, “The Irish racing industry is directly responsible for 14,000 jobs, distributed across Ireland, mostly in rural communities. I look forward to working closely with Horse Racing Ireland in engaging the general public on the importance of the equine sector and in educating the future leaders of this exciting industry, via the new Agricultural Science specification. The addition of Horse Racing Ireland to Agri Aware’s patron base highlights the vital role that the equine industry plays in supporting rural Ireland. I look forward to working with HRI in engaging the public in the importance of the equine industry in Ireland.”
Carol Nolan, Group Human Resources Manager at Horse Racing Ireland, added, “HRI is delighted to become a patron of Agri Aware. The Irish thoroughbred and racing industry is steeped in the agricultural landscape of Ireland and is an integral part of the agricultural community. We are particularly pleased with the recent work that HRI and its Industry Education Group have been involved in with Agri Aware and we welcome the inclusion of equine in the Agricultural Science syllabus for Leaving Certificate students. We look forward to building our relationship with Agri Aware into the future and introducing greater numbers of students and parents to the exciting world of racing and thoroughbred breeding.”
